Photographer's Note

These photos were taken by me in the 1960s on a Kodak Brownie box camera and on my parents much older Kodak bellows camera. My grandfather George Copley died in 1965 and the farm was sold. The dilapidated appearance of some of the buildings and fences reflects the declining energy of George and Ethel Copley as they aged and the farm structures aged around them. They never had electricity or a telephone and lived mostly on what they produced themselves. Root crops were important but there was lots of fruit and mutton. The woodstove burned year-round for heat and cooking.
